Winter Shadow Box Card

Today Bugaboo Stamps is kicking off a week of fun and prizes.  Be sure to check it out at Catch the Bug Challenge Blog. Today's challenge is a theme, "Baby, It's Cold Outside."

Saturday, July 21 - Friday, July 27
I am featuring Winter Penguin Skiing and Snowball Penguins.  I fussy cut the second one apart into 3 separate images.

I started by creating a shadow box card in Sure Cuts A Lot 4.  It measures 4"H x2 3/4"Wx2 1/8"D.  The depth  and width will fold down to about 5", so it fits in a 4.25x5.5" envelope.

I used my stitched hillside dies to cut different heights of snow covered hills in white card stock, that has a layer of Wink of Stella and then a little Stickles.  This gives it the glisten of snow on a beautiful sunny day.

My sentiment was written and curved in Design Space, which I flattened for Print Then Cut.  I printed it out on kraft card stock, then used the Hinge Method to cut it out.

Frame It With Flowers

Today's card features an Oldie but Goodie, Floral Doodles 02 at Bugaboo Stamps.

I printed the image on regular paper first to be sure it was the correct size for my card.  Then I printed it on a light pink card stock using my laser printer.

I applied a copper foil with my Minc, then applied Nuvo Glitter Drops in Midnight Sky on all the little dots and a few extra.

The sentiment was stamped with Delicate Metallic Ink in Celestial Copper.  I waited quite awhile, but as you can see, not long enough.  I smudged it when I added more of the sentiment.

Other Supplies Used:
CTMH Exclusive Ink Pad - Outdoor Denim

Challenges:

Housewarming Gift

Today's project features  AKV House by Bugaboo Stamps.

I thought a great housewarming gift is a nice bottle of wine.  Especially after all the moving. I personally don't drink wine, so please excuse the bottle I used, it is actually my cooking sherry.

I use a stylus to add the drops in small amounts, then with the very skinny tip, I drag it out to fill the area.  I think this gives the image a little more dimension and adds a lot of interest.

I printed my sentiment with my laser printer and foiled it with a Lime green foil. The inside of the card says, Can I get a woof-woof!  I saw a card at Walmart that inspired this card.

Other Supplies Used:

MFT Die-namics Stitched Basic Edges

Nuvo Crystal Drops - various colors

Wish Big

Hello, today's card features Clyde Birthday by Bugaboo Stamps.

I used Distress Inks in Carved Pumpkin and Mustard Seed on a piece of card stock before cutting the word "BIG".  I  cut it with my Cricut Explore using the Impact font.

The background layer was created by splattering several colors all over.  The "wish" sentiment was created with an alphabet stamp set I have.  I stamped it with Versamark and embossed it with WOW white embossing powder.  Then cut it out using my rectangle dies.

Supplies Used:
Distress Inks - Fossilized Amber, Carved Pumpkin, Twisted Citron, Mustard Seed

Challenges:
Seize the Birthday
Simon Says Anything Goes

Hap-Bee Birthday

Hello, today I am featuring the Freebie Friday image from Bugaboo Stamps.

For my background I stamped the MFT Honeycomb back ground  on Neenah Smooth Solar White card stock with Versamark ink.  I heat embossed it with clear embossing powder.  Using the Tim Holtz blending brush I started adding Distress Oxide inks in Squeezed Lemonade and Fossilized Amber.  Then I splashed a little thinned black craft paint for interest.

I don't have a stamp Hap-bee, so I improvised.  I used part of the word happy and using a Versamark marker added the little dash.  Then I cut out bee in white glitter card stock on my Cricut Explore.  The font is Shany, which I just got for free.

Other Supplies:
Lawn Fawn Happy Happy Happy Stamp Set
Lawn Fawn Happy Happy Happy - add on

I "heart" U - Pop up card

This card was inspired by this weeks sketch challenge at MyFavoriteThings.

I found this cute little pop-up template on the web.  but was not able to find a cutting file anywhere.  So I decided to create my own.  After a lot of trial and error I finally got it to work.  I think I finally realized what the "Open Path" feature does on images.  I was so excited it finally worked after a few tweaks.

I made my cut file fit a regular size card 4.25x5.5.  Here is the inside of my card.

First, I created my background with Brush Stroke Messages by Simon Says and Trim a Tree by Concord & Ninth.  The small stripes are heat embossed with Copper embossing powder and the brush strokes are in Outdoor Denim, a CTMH Exclusive Ink color.

Now my dilemma, after I inserted the pop-up in my card, I realized the card I designed was for a portrait style card. I debated whether to just make the outside portrait and the sentiment on the inside landscape, but decided against it.   My stripes were originally going to go up and down, not side to side and the hearts stacked to the right over the embossed stripes.

I just didn't like the heart to one side stacked on top of each other with the patterned paper I had created, so I placed them overlapping.  I always try to remember the sketch is an inspiration, and sometimes what we envision isn't always the end result, but it is a great starting point.

Happy Graduate

It's that time of year, graduations going on all over the place.  I think they are over down in this part of the states, but I know they go to school a little longer in other parts of the country,

Today I am featuring the New Release "Deacon Grad Sitter" from Bugaboo Stamps.  My card was inspired by #MFTWSC389.

I cut out and colored my stars with my alcohol markers.  Then realized all the pattern paper I had was just too busy for the stars, so I picked this note page style patterned paper.  As I laid everything out, I realized it was still just a little too plain, so I stamped the outlined stars randomly, then used foam tape to apply three solid color stars.

I stamped my sentiment on black card stock with Versamark and used WoW White Fine Detail Embossing powder.  I cut my sentiment a little long on the end for a perch that Deacon  could sit on.

Supplies used:
Lawn Fawn How You Bean? Stars Add-on
Lawn Fawn Happy, Happy Happy Stamp Set
MFT Dienamics Stitched Fishtail Flags Stax
MFT Dienamics A2 Stitched Rectangles Stax

Monochromatic Card

Hello, I hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Todays challenge at Catch the Bug is Bingo.  I am featuring "Violet Teacup" from Bugaboo Stamps.

I chose the center vertical column, monochromatic, pearls, and Bugaboo image.  Since this image is violets, I chose to use purples.

I colored my background behind the violets with my Prismacolors in Cream.  I used a very light hand to give it a cream color instead of stark white.

The watercolor background  was created using Distress Oxide and Distress Inks in various purple hues.  I used the Nuvo Crystal Drops in Wisteria Purple  This is actually called a metallic color, but it dries and looks like little purple pearls.  I also added little dew drops around the image with Nuvo Jewel Drops in Pale Periwinkle.

I stamped the image with Versamark Ink and embossed it with Wow Gold Embossing Powder.

Other Supplies:
Strathmore Watercolor paper
Lawn Fawn Happy Happy Happy Stamp Set

Challenges:
Simon Says Frame It
Southern Girls - Anything Goes

Make a Splash

This weeks challenge at Catch the Bug Saturday Challenge  is a theme “Make a Splash”.  I am featuring one of the images included “Under the Sea Birthday Set” from Bugaboo Stamps.

This set was the prize for the Birthday Bash in 2017, which I won a spot as a guest designer in July & August.  I was lucky enough for this lovely group of ladies offered me a permanent spot.

For my background, I stamped a few images with Versamark Ink and then heat embossed with clear embossing powder.  After blending the water background with Distress Oxide inks in Salty Ocean and Peacock Blue I added a few more fish images with a smoky gray ink.  The sandy bottom was Antique Linen and Old Parchment.

I decided to fussy cut the image, removing the string bow, then with a hole punch, put a hole in the center of the fishing hook.  I tied some black embroidery thread to the hook and attached the worm with foam tape.

I added Nuvo Crystal Drops  in Morning Dew around the images to look like bubbles.

My sentiment is from CTMH, Beach Days which is retired.

Supplies:
Stitched Curved Border Dies - Amazon
Nuvo Crystal Drops  - Morning Dew
Lawn Fawn Mermaid for You (LF1167)
CTMH Stamp set Beach Days - retired

Water Coloring a Digital Stamp

Hello!  Hope everyone had a great holiday.  Today I am featuring the new release "Flower Butterfly Corner" from Bugaboo Stamps.  When I saw this image I just had to use it.

I have been researching how to watercolor a digital image.  There isn't a lot of help out there, so I just decided to go for it.  I printed the image on Strathmore 300 Series watercolor paper.  The image wasn't as crisp as it would be on smooth paper, but it I was able to feed the watercolor paper through my printer.

I previously tried with my Inkjet printer, but the ink would bleed when I added water.  So to prevent that I decided to use my Minc and foil the image.  I foiled it with gold foil, but it is barely noticeable.

I used Tombow Dual Brush watercolor markers.  I didn't apply the ink directly to the paper, I put color on a stamping block and used a brush.  I am still trying to get used to watercolors, but using the markers was a lot easier.

I added Nuvo Crystal Drops in Gold Metallic with a stylus, this helps keep the dots small.  I applied it to all the little dots in the image.

I was really pleased with the finished product.

So if you have a laser printer, you can watercolor your digital images.  Just remember the image won't be really crisp, and even the foil won't apply completely because of all the tooth in the paper.

I have some CTMH watercolor paper I bought awhile back, I am going to give that a try.  I doesn't work well with a lot of water, so the markers my just do the trick

Supplies:
Strathmore #00 Series Water Color Paper (Hobby Lobby or Michaels)
Gold Foiled Card Stock - Michaels
Nuvo Crystal Drops
CTMH Stamp Set C1633 For Family

Roses for Mom

Hello!  I know Mother's Day has come and gone, but here is one of the cards I made this year.

When I saw this week's sketch I knew that the Fancy Rose was perfect.  You can get the image here.

I started with a very light pink card stock and added a little spattering of ink for interest.  I stamped my sentiment with Versamark ink and heat embossed it with a gold embossing powder.  This stamp is an old CTMH stamp that I cut up, it was one of the little mini stamps and originally had a wreath of leaves around it.

I always use my Cricut Explore to fussy cut my images.  I create an svg file with SCAL4 and then use the print then cut feature.  The areas around the stem, I added some pink pencil so it would blend in with the background, then attached it with foam tape.

I added three drops of Nuvo Crystal Drops in Morning Dew.

Supplies:
Paper - Blush Glam Michaels
Distress Inks - Mini Pads -Victorian Velvet
CTMH - M1137 -  A Day for Mother (retired)

#1 Dad

Today I am featuring the new release "Kidz Boy Dad" from Bugaboo Stamps.  The name says boy, but I made a little change.  I only have a little grand daughter, so I wanted to make this image work for me.

That's the beauty of digital stamps, you can make modifications to them on your computer without all that masking or cutting them up.  You still have the original and then a new one.

I originally just overplayed the girl over the boy, but I wanted to have her pop.  So I covered the boy image and cut out only the Dad part.  Then I printed her separately and attached her with foam tape.

I modified my stamps using Pages (Mac), I just used a white shape to block out the part I didn't want.

I added a little Nuvo Drops on her dress and around the card and my sentiment is also attached with foam tape.

Relax for Father's Day

This week we are playing Bingo at Catch the Bug Saturday Challenge.  I am featuring “Relaxing Guy" and Chihuahua Puppy Set from Bugaboo Stamps.

selected the middle vertical column for my card, stitching, 2 images merged, and orange.

I am making this card for my son, and wouldn’t you know it, he has red hair, so I chose a shade of orange for the guy’s hair, plus put a little orange in his tie.

For my stitching I used my Die-Namics dies to cut out my layers.

I added some splattering on the white background in a Denim Blue ink for a little something.  This card is for a man, so I have to avoid bling.   I really need to practice splattering with my brushes, so I know which one to use for different looks.  I think I got a little carried away here.

I created my “relax” word die in Sure Cuts a Lot 4 using font “Braveheart”, which  I think is a free font.  I did manipulate the “r” with a glyph.  I created a shadow of .03 so it wouldn’t be so thin, but next time on this font I will use .05, especially to stack layers.  Here I cut out 3 layers and stacked them for dimension.  I used Distress Inks in “Orange Marmalade” to add color to it after it was glued together.

I didn’t technically merge the two images, which I had planned to do.  I decided to attach the puppy with foam tape for a little dimension.  I also added little google eyes for fun.

The sentiment was built with my Honeybee Simple Sentiments stamp set.  I stamps on coordinating blue card stock and used white heat embossing powder.

Sending Smiles

It’s time for another sketch with Stella.  Today I am featuring "Flower Teddy" from Bugaboo Stamps.

I added some shimmer to the wings of the dragon flies and Nuvo drops to the center of the flowers and on the lady bug.

For the sentiment, I used Distress Oxide Peeled Paint and an old make up brush to apply color to a piece of card stock.  I gave it a little distressed look by adding water drops.  The sentiment was stamped in Versacolor Black Onyx ink and heat embossed with clear embossing powder.  This ink gives a much more precise crisp image for the smaller print.  If you don't plan to emboss, be sure to let it dry before handling, this is a pigment ink and takes longer to dry.

Supplies:
Heidi Swapp Paper Pack (Tuesday Morning)
CTMH Stamp Set #D1708 Sending Smiles
Challenges:

There is still plenty of time to enter the Stella Says Sketch Challenge.  The sketches run for 2 weeks and you can win free images from Bugaboo Stamps.
