Birdbrain "Looking Good"

This adorable Birdbrain image is one of Faith's great images at "From the Heart Stamps".

I used my Prismacolor Premiere pencils to color coordinate with my paper "Happy Times" from CTMH.   This paper was a monthly special.

The gold foil washi tape is also a CTMH product, the gold sequins I had laying around.

The pierced circle die is Cottage Cutz, and the scallop circle is Spell binders.

Simple card to make,  the sketch is Viva La Verve August Sketch 1.

Fussy cutting Digital Stamps with your Cricut Explore

Hi everyone,

I used one of my favorite stamps I purchased at "From the Heart Stamps", Pigwit Cold Suds.   I used the Hinge Method (explained below) to fussy cut him and the mug of beer for a more 3 dimensional look.  You can't tell by the photo, but I isolated the mug of beer and cut that individually.  I did have the white too large so I had to fussy cut anyway.

If anyone has done this with a Silouhette Cameo and Pixscan, I would love to know how easy it is.  Looking at videos, it seems like all you have to do is take a picture of your image and it creates a shape for you, but I don't have a Cameo to test it.  I simply can't justify purchasing one now, just to fussy cut my stamps.   Maybe if there are some new and amazing features with the Silhouette Cameo 3, I might add the machine to my collection.

The "Hinge Method"  is a great technique shared by Kay on her blog "Clever Someday".  She has complete instructions and  a video showing exactly how to accomplish this.  Be sure to stop by her blog,  she has some great tips and videos on doing all sorts of things with your Cricut Explore.

First things first, we need an electronic die cut to match your stamp image.  I used Scal4 to create mine, using the  trace image feature.  There are a few steps to this procedure, here is just one video that may help.  The Effects, shadow layer feature allows you to create, just what it says, shadow layers.  Here are the layers in my svg file when I am finished, the default for a shadow layer is .10, which can be adjusted, or you can make as many layers as you want.

Once you have created your die cut with the stamped image,  upload it to Design Space,  you will have the 3 layers as shown above.  Now the tricky part, you need to figure out exactly what size your stamped image is.  I started with the Design Space file first,  I sized my grouped image to fit my card.  Then I ungrouped it and measured the stamped image (top layer) to get exact dimensions.

With this measurement I opened my high quality png into Pages (my choice for printing stamps).  I inserted an unfilled rectangle and made it the exact measurements of the image in DS.  I made the stamp image fit within this rectangle. Here is what it looks like, the blue line around the image is the actual size of the stamped image, so using this to measure will make the image too small, that's why the rectangle must be used.

If your shadow layer isn't too small, a tenth of an inch probably won't cause a problem.  So now when I print my image and color it, and use the hinge method to cut it out, it looks like I had a die to go with the stamp.  I know the instructions are confusing, but it takes quite a few steps to make it work.  If I ever come up with a simpler method I will be happy to share it.

Maybe I will ask Kay over at "Clever Someday" to give this a try and see if she can figure out a simpler way to do this.

Please post any questions if you would like more information.

Penguin Christmas

This cute image is from Bugaboo stamps, "Poppi Xmas Snowballs".

He was a perfect image for the paper pack"Winter Time" by Bella Road.  I picked this up at Tuesday Morning.  They have some really great deals occasionally on paper.

I colored the image with my Prismacolor pencils and added some highlights with a white gel pen and some glittery sheen to the snow with Clear Stickles.

I distressed the edge of the tag.  My strips are actually some border stickers that were included in the pack.

Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge #459

Here is my card for the challenge this week.  I wanted to try out Anna's Toner paint to see how it would work.

First I cut out the top layer of this image and applied a thick layer of the toner paint.

I carefully cut the leaves off the flower so I could use a different color foil.

Then I ran the pieces through my Minc to apply the foil.

After I applied the foil,  I realized, I had painted the textured side of the card stock.  There are tiny little spots the foil didn't adhere to, because of the texture.

Anna's toner paint does a great job, I was really impressed.   I don't know if she sells it separately, I got mine when I ordered Anna's Minc bundle from HSN.

Next I would love to see a stamp pad with toner ink.  I tried the sticky embossing powder, but I couldn't seem to get that to work at all.

I stamped my sentiment in pigment ink and added embossing powder to it to darken the color so it would pop.

I {heart} Sketch 160

It's time for another sketch with "From the Heart" stamps, only 2 a month right now.  Everyone is getting their kids ready for school.  I can't believe the summer is almost over.  At least for the kids anyway, we still  have 2 months of extremely HOT weather.

Challenge:  I {heart}sketches #160 with a twist.  The twist is to use  cool blues and/or water.  My patterned paper is little raindrops and of course froggy is sitting on a lily pad in the water.

I used "Frog and Frozen", you can purchase it here.

I didn't put a sentiment, I think I'll send this to Smile 4 Kids, they could probably use blank cards.

Till next time.

Black & Gold Birthday

It's almost time for football, so I'm pulling out my black and gold stash in honor of our beloved New Orleans Saints.

The paper is from Recollections Black & Gold Halloween.  I bought this for 75% off last year when I saw all the black & gold prints.

I used Zing embossing powder in gold for the sentiment and edges of the gold square.  None of my gold card stock matched.

I added a fleur di lis embellishment by Jolee I picked up on a 50% off sale.

Viva La Verve July Sketch #1

Bright and cheery birthday card with the Birdbrain Bee Happy digital image available at "From the Heart " stamps.

I made use of my CTMH Poppy colors with this one.  It is a bright orange red and went perfect with this paper collection from Echo Park.

I used the thick twine, but since I added a button I had to split it into two pieces by unraveling it.

Christmas in July - Friday Event

This is the last challenge for Bugaboo's Christmas in July challenge.  It ends with a new Friday Freebie stamp that makes using this color palette a lot easier.

I chose to keep a somewhat traditional Christmas feel, with the main colors of red and green.  I added the accent colors on the presents and stamping.

If you like this image, make sure to get yours at Bugaboo Stamps.

I used a CTMH Stamp of the Month (S1510) from last year to create the christmas lights and sentiment.

Christmas in July - Thursday Event

Today is a photo challenge, this one was definitely a challenge.

This one took a little thought, I just don't see the beach in Christmas, but the Design Team sure had some great cards with this photo.  They said use what comes to mind and this is what I came up with.  It's not your traditional Christmas card, but I really liked how it came out.

The snowflakes are stamped with blue ink, then heat embossed with a Holographic embossing powder.  This gave them a real shimmery sparkly look.

The sentiment is from Anna Griffin and was heat embossed with clear embossing powder.Challenges:

"Edit"  This post was added yesterday and linked to the challenges, today I open it up and half the post is missing and it is no longer linked to the challenges"  My blog is going crazy, duplicate p posts and things disappearing.  I have to figure out what is happening.

Today's challenge is a bingo challenge.  I chose bottom left to top right, embossing, bugaboo image, and stripes.

I used a cute little moose image, BUGCMO Christmas Moose.

The green layer is embossed with an embossing folder, the sentiment is heat embossed with clear embossing powder. So I used both embossing techniques.

Inspired by #FTHStamps, weekly sketch challenge #158 with a twist.  I created 3 little individual cupcakes for my paper piecing technique.

I used Adobe Photoshop Elements to crop the individual cupcakes, cleaned them up and created digital die cuts in SCAL 4.  I used the PTC feature in Design Space to create my stamped image on the cut outs.

My squares are all cut using Cottage Cutz stitch dies in rectangles and squares.

Another card using my new card kit from "My Favorite Things", this time I used the colors in the kit. These are bright bold colors perfect for birthday cards for everybody.

Make a Wish

I used my new Make a Wish Card kit, from "My Favorite Things (MFT)"  to create this card. I didn't use the colors included in the kit, but the colors for the color challenge.

I used the masking technique to split the stamped image "Make a Wish" and to make each candle a different color.   I added little purple glitter gems in the candles flames.

Very simple and clean card.  After looking at it here, I think it could use just a little bit more sparkle.  I will add little Stickles to the end of the flames.

Supplies used:

Confetti Circles embossing folder by CTMH

Momento Tear drop ink pads in Grape Jelly

Summer Inspired

I couldn't pass up making a card with this color combo after seeing all the beautiful cards made with it.

It doesn't hurt that I have a chance to win a gift card for Verve Stamps, I have been drooling over them for awhile.

I  started with the CTMH "Charlotte" paper pack, and added some "Crystal Blue" to finish out the color combination.

I stamped my image with Slate ink and then embossed with clear embossing powder.  I filled it in with my Prismacolor pencils.

I had to use the "Hot Chick Flamingo", she really pops colored in peachy tones.

Blooming Birthday Card

I wish I had a stamp that said Happy Blooming' Birthday.  I could have used my Cricut to write it, but I just thought of it while I am writing this post, maybe next time.

I have seen this technique on a few challenge blogs lately, so I thought I would give it a try.  You layer the stamped image, leaving some of it uncolored.  I decided to color all of mine in, but still layered the flowers.  You could fussy cut them, but this image allowed me to create a shadow background in  SCAL 4.  The image I used was "Every Flower" , a digital stamp available at "From the Heart Stamps".  I uploaded this image into Design Space and used the print and cut feature, so my flowers would already be cut out.  Not all stamps work with this technique, but I have had it work on quite a few.  I added three complete flower images on my background layer, being sure they would line up with the flower images.  I used PTC on my background layer also.

I covered the flowers on the background with the blue layer, then placed colored flower images on top with pop dots.

Here is a screen shot of what I did so you can see it, I don't think I explained it very well.

I stamped my image and then embossed it with clear embossing powder.  I added a little Wink of Stella on the petals and some Stickles in orange on the flower centers and yellow rhinestones for my sparkle.

Red, White & Blue Gift Bag

It's almost the 4th of July already, summer is flying by.  It is scorching outside, so the only thing I can do is stay inside in the AC.  I have been trying to finish my grand daughter's patriotic dress for the 4th.  I got so caught up in coloring digital stamps, I put it off, now I am in a crunch.

I decided to do something a little different with this weeks sketch at Mojo Monday.  I have a few gift bags in my stash so I made a cute bag to pack my little gift in.  I used these chevron images at christmas time to decorate some gift tags and really loved the look, so I thought they would be perfect for my bag.

The chevron strips are actually cut from an adhesive backed red glitter card stock I found at Tuesday Morning.   The image is free image in Design Space (#M439A4), just use the hide contour feature to remove the heart.

The stars cut out is a back ground image from CTMH Artbooking cartridge,  layered with a piece of white glitter card stock.

The sentiment"Three cheers to the Red, White and Blue" is from Verve Stamps - it's a free digital stamp provided by this week's Mojo Monday Challenge - 3 Cheers Digi Set by Julee Tillman.  It's available thru June 30th, so be sure to stop by and pick it up.

I am really happy with the end result,  and it's the perfect gift bag for my grand daughters dress.

Birthday Wishes

Birthday wishes with this cute little mouse, digital image is free at "From the Heart Stamps".  There are no sentiments included so I pulled out one of my own.

I colored this image awhile back.  I print my stamps on 4.25 x 5.5" pieces of card stock and color them when I feel like coloring, instead of using a coloring book.  So when I pull them out to put on a card I don't always have a perfect match.  These colors in the Florence paper pack I thought looked good without making the balloon stand out like a sore thumb.

I followed a few challenges for this card, here they are:
Sketch from Sketch Saturday #417.
Die cut / punches - Send a Smile 4 Kids Challenge
Bingo - Ribbon, Animal & Players Choice Catch the Bug Saturday Challenge ( followed middle row, using twine, my cute little mouse and the puffies as player's choice)

I cut my image out with some pierced rectangle dies.  The larger middle layer is one of the pocket card pieces from the paper pack.

The striped center piece, is two pieces of the zip strips, I used the twine to hide where they come together in the middle.  So it looks like I added a 1" thick piece in the center.

I {heart} sketches #156 with a twist

Today's card is for the I {heart} sketch challenge #156, the twist this week is gratitude.  So I chose to lift my glass in appreciation.

The image is "Hamlet Pig Cold Suds", I cropped the sentiment from the same digital stamp set.  I add a little tickles to the suds, which you can't really tell in the picture, but it looks like real foam.

The paper is "Hopscotch", a Close to My Heart collection.

Let's Pig Out

I found another sketch challenge, Sweet Sketch Wednesday 2.  I love using sketches to make my cards.  I am getting quite a collection.

Today is "Hamlet Pigwit Pig Out", I love these little pigs.

I am still getting used to how to size my images to fit on my cards, I tend to make them a little too big.  I need to research the best way to do this.

I used "All About a Boy" by Lori Whitlock, from Echo Park.  It has the cutest blue jean print.  I am shooting for making some of these pig out piggies for boys.  I am going to send this one to Send A Smile 4 Kids.
Thanks for stopping by.

It's Par-TEE time with Pigwit

Here is a quick card I put together for a sketch challenge, when I saw the sketch I thought it would be perfect to show case Pigwit. I don't know what I am going to do with all these cards featuring Pigwit golfing, but I just love coloring him.

I cut the square with my Cottage Cutz pierced die, then cut the circle out of the center with the circle dies.  This made a frame which I attached to the stamped image with pop dots.  I added stitch lines with my white gel pen.

The most difficult part of making cards is choosing paper.  I end up wasting some, because it just doesn't look like I wanted.  This color combo ended up being perfect.
